O’FALLON – VFW Post 805 is trying to start a new tradition in O’Fallon. They have approached the city about a new street festival in mid-October called Bacon Fest. The downtown event would feature vendors selling items in booths and food vendors with bacon themed menu items.
The event would take place along First Street between Oak Street and Lincoln Avenue and would run on October 15 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The event, which was presented to the city council’s Community Development Committee, is described as a family activity with no alcohol served outside. Aside from the bacon menu, a car show will take place featuring the Piston Pushers and other car groups.
Parking will be available at City Hall and St. Clare School. First Street will be closed off between Oak and Lincoln.
Alderman David Cozad enthusiastically supported the proposal.
“The more people we can get downtown, the better it will be. I applaud the VFW for stepping up and trying something like this. I think that those of us who remember when the town did more, I think we need to get this on our calendar and support what they’re trying to do,” Cozad said.
The proposal will be sent to the full city council for consideration.
