View of the Past – August 2, 2017

This week’s view was taken in O’Fallon Community Park on the baseball field during the sprawling “This is Our Town” pageant performed the nights of August 26 and 27 as part of O’Fallon’s 1954 Centennial celebration.  Velma Hartman directed a cast of about 400 while the O’Fallon Choral Singers under J.E. Hinchcliffe, Sr. provided most of the vocal music.  This scene in Episode 7 (of 10) was described as “The O’Fallon Volunteer Fire Laddies put out a fire and rescue an imperiled and frightened female.”  The musical selections were “Scotland’s Burning” and “There’ll Be A Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight.”
